Sue McGilveray's Landscapes

I have posted Sue's landscape images in the Aperture Gallery - link . The rest of the images have been posted to the Gallery - see Tab above

Landscapes Without Filters

Neil presented some of his landscapes which he generally shoots without using filters relying on Raw conversion and Photoshop to do the tonal corrections.

First some water falls from Iceland - Neil prefers the faster shutterspeeds rather than the more 'fashionable' slower shutterspeeds as in the middle im,age

Lee Filter Recommendations for Landscape Photography

The filters that I recommend are 0.9 stop soft graduated neutral density and 0.6 stop hard graduated neutral density which can be used separately or as in the following example together. The hard  graduated are ok for flat horizons but will give dark hills or trees so a soft-edged filter will give a gradual change over complicated horizons.

The first Holy Island example is without filters, the second image is with 0.9 and 0.6 filters together

The rest of the images are all with graduated filters.

The next three images are 30 second exposures using an 8-stop neutral density filter

Use of Filters - Tim Harris's Contribution

Tim showed us some of his long-exposure landscapes and seascapes using Big Stopper and graduated neutral density filters to smooth out the movement of water and clouds. The longest exposure is under the A14 Orwell Bridge which is around 5 minutes to remove distracting clouds.
Tim has a provided us with the original Raw files and the final manipulated images

Ready for Assessment Day

Two Members of the Group brought their prints along for a final review of the panel and printing.

Here is the layout that we decided for Mike's LRPS panel. They will all be printed to around A4 size and presented on vertical mounts

We also had several sets of digital images to help Members start to choose their images for panels. These will appear in the Gallery in due course.
