The filters that I recommend are 0.9 stop soft graduated neutral density and 0.6 stop hard graduated neutral density which can be used separately or as in the following example together. The hard graduated are ok for flat horizons but will give dark hills or trees so a soft-edged filter will give a gradual change over complicated horizons.
The first Holy Island example is without filters, the second image is with 0.9 and 0.6 filters together
The rest of the images are all with graduated filters.
The next three images are 30 second exposures using an 8-stop neutral density filter
